See subject line.

I quote from the abovementioned article:
'The NFL fined Lynch this week only after it found out he had violated the league's media policy, per [NFL Media Insider Ian] Rapoport.'

The boys and girls at 345 Park Avenue only found out about that this week? Either incompetence* or a dislike for Paul Allen** are at play here.

*Example no. 42564 in a continuing series.
**Which I get, I'm not a fan either. (Not after what he did to ZDTV-turned-TechTV-turned-G4TV-turned-whatever-the-hell-it-is-now.) But to take it out on a team MVP? No. Just . . . no.

I don't mind policies like that, but I don't see where the numbers come from. You can give a Steeler a $8K fine for providing a prostate exam on the field, a Wes Welker snow angel TD celebration costs $10K, a vicious hit that can end someone's career is generally a $15K fine, but not talking to the media is $50K?

It's probably $50k because he didn't do it throughout the whole season (even though they just noticed now).

If they fined him after every week, it might've ended up being more when all was said and done.

I thought the original report today was that it was $20K for skipping the media at the start of the week, then the $50K was when the NFL realized the extent of it.

I looked around and also saw James Harrison's hit on Colt McCoy that pretty much ended him starting and any chance of a career cost a game check worth $72K. No consistency in the numbers either way.

Well Harrison's a repeat offender so his fines are always going to be crazy at this point.

I wonder how many other players/coaches would just pay $50k if they knew they wouldn't have to talk to the media all season?

Why wasn't the Seattle media complaining about this? I think if this happened in New York or Dallas or Philly or New England - the reporters who cover the team would be on the phone with the League by day's end.

Fine successfully appealed.. . . That is, if Marshawn is a reasonably talkative Beast.
